After looking at the map last night, Chris and I decided to follow the Camino de Santiago route instead of our planned route, theoretically saving 10 km of walking. Also, Chris was excited to walk another Camino route.
After a breakfast of bread and jam, we picked up picnic supplies and set off. I immediately had us overshoot a turn. Smooth sailing/walking followed for a while, and the threat of rain held off.
Finding a lunch spot proved challenging, without any convenient walls by the vineyards. We ended up clambering up a hill and sitting on some rocks. It was a little precarious but okay until. I dropped the can of pate and watched it bouncebouncebounce down and under the rocks! In desperation, I scrambled after and recovered it.
After lunch, we managed to miss a marker and vastly overshot a turn. We joked about walking 15 km to get through the last 10 km to Beaune, but it was rough. Once back on track we did much better at spotting the markers, but we did spend a lot of time double checking the markers and occasionally retracing our steps.
We stumbled across a chateau, Chateau de Corton Andres, and went in for a wine tasting. The group in there was the one we saw last night at dinner, and we ended up chatting for a bit before they left. The wines were superb. We each bought s bottle. Mine I am thinking i will save for my 50th birthday
The rest of the walk was tiring but uneventful. I estimate we walked about 18 km. I was happy to get to the hotel with wifi!
Now we are off to dinner, so more later.
